CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – As Tropical Storm Debby makes its way to the Lowcountry, residents should expect power outages.
Spokesperson Dominion Energy-South Carolina, Paul Fischer, said every storm is unique and so are the challenges.
“We have crews, vehicles, equipment staged all across our service territory,” Fischer said. “An additional 200 line workers, contract resources form out of state that we will be able to mobilize particularly along the coast.”
Dominion Energy has developed a system that allows their crews to restore power on the go.
Fischer said in conditions with high winds and heavy rain, it’s not safe for employees and trucks to be out.
“The number one priority for Dominion Energy, for our employees and our customers to be safe through any severe weather event,” Fischer said.
He advised people to have flashlights, batteries and water prepared. As well as mobile devices fully charged if the electricity does go out.
He said their team will work as best as they can, but he asks you to ultimately stay safe.
“And of course in terms of flooding and things that are going throughout the Lowcountry, particularly, don’t drive through flooded areas. You never know what dangers may lurk beneath those waters-including down powerlines…always assume a down powerline is energized,” Fischer said.
