Belfast City Airport has provided vital funding to Sense NI’s ‘Next Steps Programme’, helping young people with complex disabilities develop life skills, gain vocational training, and build independence during their transition into adulthood.

With backing from Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund, Sense NI can deliver a year-long programme for adolescents and young adults aged 14 to 23, giving participants the opportunity to build confidence through practical learning and real-world experience.

The initiative also helps individuals build connections within their communities through ongoing support from educators and health professionals, empowering them to reach their full potential.

Rory Goldring, Community Fund Ambassador for Belfast City Airport, said:

“As an airport based in the heart of the city, we are passionate about backing initiatives that make a meaningful difference to the lives of local people.

“Projects such as the ‘Next Step Programme’ go beyond teaching practical skills – they encourage young people to thrive and take an active role in shaping their futures.

“The positive difference that Sense NI makes to the local community is evident, and we are proud to partner with an organisation that helps individuals grow.”

Since its inception in 2009, the Community Fund has donated over £750,000 to 248 local charities and community organisations.

Sharon McKee, Funding and Business Relations Manager at Sense NI, said:

“The transition from adolescence to adulthood can be particularly challenging for those with complex disabilities.

“The ‘Next Step Programme’ fosters a sense of community and provides a safe, inclusive space where participants can learn, connect with others, and develop practical and personal skills for adulthood.

“Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund has made a lasting impact on many lives, and we are grateful for its partnership.”

The ‘New Step Programme’ is part of a wider commitment by Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund to support local initiatives that focus on improving the wellbeing of families, promote social inclusion, and enhance the lives of those in Greater Belfast and across Northern Ireland.
