BCP Council will introduce the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) from April 1, funded by the UK Government, to aid low-income residents facing financial hardship.
The fund will replace the Household Support Fund and Discretionary Housing Payments, which end on March 31.
Councillor Sandra Moore, cabinet member for communities and partnerships at BCP Council, said: “The introduction of the Crisis and Resilience Fund means support for residents will continue with a focus on long term financial wellbeing.
“By working closely with local partners, we’re making sure people can access the right help at the right time and build resilience for the future.”
The CRF will offer crisis payments for essentials, housing support, and services that promote financial stability.
It will be delivered through four schemes: a Crisis Payment Scheme, Housing Payments, Resilience Services, and Community Coordination.
The Crisis Payment Scheme will provide immediate cash support for food, energy, and urgent transport.
Resilience Services will offer financial resilience support and community grants, while Community Coordination will invest in partnerships like the Access to Food network.
Details of the scheme will be published on the council’s website before the launch on April 1.
Information for schools, voluntary organisations and referral partners will also be shared in the coming weeks.
