Aldi’s £10 energy-saving item that’s backed by Martin Lewis

The discount supermarket will have a range of items in stock ahead of winter

As the temperature drops, a range of retailers are rolling out budget-friendly gadgets designed to ease the financial sting of rising energy bills. Aldi is one of those shops helping Brits keep cosy without forking out more than needed on gas and electricity, thanks to the comeback of its winter warming range.

The ‘heat the human not the home’ gadgets will be filling out the middle aisle baskets from October 23, with more products launching on October 26. Many of these items include devices meant to trap heat indoors and slash pricey central heating costs.

Money experts have backed simple radiator reflectors in particular as a cost-effective way to cut down on household energy bills by keeping heat locked in for longer. Martin Lewis has previously spoken about them as a handy addition to any home during the chilly autumn and winter months.

While the founder of Money Saving Expert doesn’t endorse a specific brand, he advises people to think about getting some to boost home insulation and reduce heating costs. In one episode of the Martin Lewis BBC podcast, he noted that fitting reflective panels behind radiators bounces warmth back into the room, which can stop heat from slipping out, reports the Daily Record.

“A tip for you: reflective panels behind radiators. Sheets of reflective material can be placed behind radiators,” he told listeners at the time. “Crucially, this is on external wall radiators, so the heat doesn’t escape. If you don’t want to pay for those, then tin foil can work, although it doesn’t work quite as well.”

Aldi is set to stock radiator reflectors from Thursday, October 23, in all UK shops for £9.99. The supermarket says these reflectors help reduce energy loss and insulate living spaces.

Aldi’s product boasts a “high emissivity surface” that claims to reflect “up to 86% of infrared energy back into the room”. This £10 gadget comes with self-adhesive strips for simple fitting and foam bubble layers for “enhanced core thermal performance.”

According to Aldi, one reflector can insulate up to three radiators, helping shoppers stay warm and comfortable throughout the winter months. The MSE team has put together a list of other affordable items that can help reduce your bills, including USB gloves, heated insoles, USB hand warmers, electric gilets, microwaveable wheat bags, 1.5-litre hot water bottles, reusable hand warmers, electric heat pads, electric footwarmers, and single electric blankets.

What other ‘energy-saving’ items are there at Aldi?

Aldi is set to bring out a Heating Blanket (£24.99) available in four colours – pink, blue, grey, or cream. This blanket features four layers of heating and a digital hand controller with an LED display, and it’s machine washable.

For additional insulation, Aldi offers the Multi-Purpose Insulation Wrap for just £9.99. This wrap has three layers of bubble foil insulation designed to retain heat.

The store’s Oscillating Ceramic Tower Heater (£24.99) costs 53p per hour to run and is designed to “spread warmth around the whole of a room like a comforting hug with its oscillating function”. For smaller rooms, the Ceramic Personal Heater (£14.99) might be the perfect solution. This compact heater promises to warm up a room “quickly and efficiently” without taking up much space – it costs just 32p per hour to run.

For the bedroom, Aldi offers Heated Mattress Pads in single (£14.99), double (£22.99), and king (£24.99) sizes. The double and king sizes feature two different heating zones, three temperature settings for each zone, and a detachable remote controller to adjust the mattress to any temperature.

These pads are machine washable and come with four elastic ties for securing to the bed. One of the most affordable options is Aldi’s Premium Hot Water Bottle (£6.99). It comes as a long cushion with a cosy plush cover or a body wrap hot water bottle with a cosy textile cover, available in multiple colours, including pink and cream.

Aldi’s Dehumidifier (£39.99) is designed to help combat mould and damp in the home. It works by extracting moisture from within the house to “ensure an optimum temperature.” The device is compact and portable, featuring a two-litre water tank and quiet operation, suitable for rooms up to 15 square metres.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “These must-have products can save shoppers as much as 84% compared to popular brands. Set to be a sell-out range, those looking to get ahead of the winter months will need to hurry because, as with all Aldi Specialbuys, once they’re gone, they’re gone.”
