Russia launched a fresh wave of large-scale attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of the winter, striking the capital Kiev and several other regions, Ukrainian officials said on Friday.
Parts of the left bank of the Dnipro River in the city were left without power and water supply was also disrupted following the attack, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram. Twelve people were injured, eight of them hospitalized, and several residential buildings caught fire or were damaged, he added.
In Zaporizhzhya, a 7-year-old boy was killed, and two others were injured during a more than six-hour barrage of drones and missiles, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said on Telegram. Private homes and energy facilities were hit.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russia also targeted power infrastructure, injuring one man and causing several fires, regional governor Serhiy Lysak said.
Ukraine has been defending itself for more than three and a half years against Russia’s full-scale invasion. Moscow has recently intensified strikes on critical infrastructure sich as power facilities, damaging Ukraine’s energy supply as temperatures drop.
