CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The Vibrant Community Fund kicked off its application process with a Q&A session at CitySpace in downtown Charlottesville today.
The Charlottesville Department of Human Services gives local non-profits a chance to apply for funds each year.
Human Services Planner Hunter Smith hosted the question session. He says the Community Fund is a way to support organizations in Charlottesville that do critical work and may not always have the resources they need.
“I will tell you that all of them do amazing work,” said Smith. “And all of the ones that are funded, we track them, and they’re all providing services that the city either can’t or wouldn’t be able to do, and so it’s a good way for the city to participate in some of these programs that citizens really, really rely on.”
Smith says they are having an orientation in early September for any 501(c)(3) interested in applying. Last year, he says, 63 of the 70 applicants received funding.
Final decisions about who will receive the grants are released in the spring.
